WAKON

WAKON

Development history of 'Wakon'

'Wakon' is a word that represents the soul of Japan, the heart of the Japanese. In this series of 'Wakon,' we would like to express to you the traditional culture of the Hida and Takayama regions of Japan using the genre of furniture. Our 'Wakon' was developed with such an aspiration. The various motifs of 'Wakon' are festival floats inherited by the towns in the Takayama region, the large curvature of pedimental, gabled style roofs of shrines and temples, and the pier style panel, fine lattice that was used in the old houses of Takayama built during the Edo era (1600-1868).

Unnecessary decorations are eliminated as much as possible, with the perspective of design being to create beautiful figures from the fundamental components of function and structure.

This series of 'Wakon' was exhibited in the trade fairs of Salon du Meuble de Paris held in France in January 1999, and West Week fair held at the PDC in Los Angeles, CA U.S.A. in March 2001, appealing to the advanced technology of Japanese woodworking and Japanese culture, and was highly esteemed. We would like to actively participate and place our furniture in overseas exhibitions, and export the traditions of Japanese culture by means of our Japanese furniture, in whatever occasions arise.

'Wakon": Japanese furniture that has won admiration the world over.
